US Savings Bonds

About One in Three Americans bought savings bonds. Many were purchased through payroll withholding plans or received as gifts. Most of these Savings Bond Holders don't even know they have or are entitled to them. U.S. Savings Bonds stop earning interest at final maturity, forty years or less from the issuance.

Unredeemed bonds that have reached final maturity currently exceed $15 billion. Last year over 12,000 savings bonds and 20,000 savings bond interest payments went undelivered. Unredeemed U.S. Savings Bonds can be worth more than five times the original amount.
